Elf Foundation Donates Movie Magic to Children with Special Needs
POMPANO BEACH FL (Feb. 16) – A partnership between the Hollywood California-based Elf Foundation, AVAD LLC., Good Sounds a Home Theater Entertainment Systems Company located in Margate, Florida, and Broward Children’s Center of Pompano Beach will put local infants and children with special health care needs in the front row of their very own big-screen movie theater.
The new theater, located at the Center’s medically fragile childcare center in Pompano, will allow individuals with special needs to enjoy the big screen movie experience while receiving expert special needs medical care. The theater will be used as a therapeutic tool and to provide children with the simple enjoyment and escape of film.
“Unlike their typically developing peers many of the children we serve can’t easily enjoy a quick trip to the local cinema, so the Elf Foundation and its partners bring that important quality of life experience to them,” said Center CEO, Marge Evans. “The Elf Foundation has given these children and children around the country a very special gift, the gift of the delight and simple joy movies can provide.”
The Elf Foundation’s Doug Weinstein said the project was the result of the hard work and generosity of Foundation staff and corporate and individual sponsors.
“All of us at the Foundation and our partners are delighted to be able to provide the opportunity for these children to laugh and enjoy the magic of music and film. The dedicated staff at Broward Children's Center deserve all the assistance we can give them in ensuring these very fragile children enjoy the greatest quality of life possible,” said Mr. Weinstein. He further added: “I also can’t say enough about the generosity of the good folks at AVAD for underwriting this project. In addition to the state-of-the-art equipment they are donating, they’re always willing to contribute their time and efforts in supporting our mission.”
AVAD LLC, headquartered in Hollywood, Florida, is a nationwide value-added distributor of home technology products. Joe Piccirilli, AVAD’s managing director stated: “We are very excited to have teamed up with the Elf Foundation to create a ‘Room of Magic,’ especially in our own backyard. Having the privilege to play a small part in bringing joy to the lives of these very special children is a truly remarkable experience, and an even greater reward for those who get involved.”
Jim and JoAnn McGowan of Good Sounds commented that “we have always wanted to do something for the residents at Broward Children’s Center and this was a golden opportunity to fulfill that dream.”
Broward Children’s Center will recognize the Elf Foundation, AVAD and Good Sounds gift Feb. Saturday 19th at 5p.m. with a naming presentation and movie screening for children it serves, including all the popcorn and soda trimmings.
The Elf Foundation is a non-profit charity that brings the enchantment of uplifting music and film to sick children around the country.
